EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Hampton Roads Transportation Authority (HRTA), a regional authority created by the Virginia General Assembly during its 2007 session, and representing twelve jurisdictions in southeastern Virginia is seeking a candidate for the Executive Director position.  For more information, click here for the job specification packet (PDF).

On February 29, 2008, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled the HRTA's ability to levy taxes and fees unconstitutional.  As a result, the HRTA did not start collecting the taxes and fees outlined in General Assembly legislation (HB 3202).

Recently, Governor Kaine has proposed abolishing the HRTA in his transportation plan to fund transportation initiatives across Virginia. The General Assembly will return to Richmond, June 23rd, for a special session on transportation issues and Governor Kaine's proposal.

Currently, the staff of the Hampton Roads Planning District are supporting the HRTA. In time the HRTA will be hiring its own staff. Please continue to visit this page for more information.
