Physical and Environmental Planning Department

HRPDC's Physical and Environmental Planning Department (PEP) provides a forum for the local governments to exchange information and to develop cooperative initiatives that address regional environmental issues and opportunities, as well as state and federal regulations. The Department's staff undertakes technical and policy studies and provides technical assistance to the member localities and others.

With a current emphasis on water resource management, the Department also encompasses general physical planning activities such as comprehensive planning and ordinance development, solid waste, recreation, and open space and linkages to state and federal agencies and programs. The Physical and Environmental Planning Department also coordinates comprehensive environmental education and outreach to the Hampton Roads community.
