Hampton Roads Ozone Forecasts Available On
HRTPO and HRPDC Websites
Ground-level ozone is a primary constituent of smog and has been linked to health concerns, particularly among children, asthmatics, people with heart or lung disease, and older adults. Of the six pollutants regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency, Ozone is the only one that has historically been a problem in Hampton Roads.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) monitors levels of ozone at three stations in Hampton Road and releases daily air quality forecasts and health alerts, based on an Air Quality Index, during the summer months when ground-level ozone is a problem.
The Ozone Forecast and Health Alert information for Hampton Roads is now available on the home pages of the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) and the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) at:
www.hrtpo.org or www.hrpdcva.gov
Links provide access to information on the Air Quality Index, past forecasts of unhealthy ozone conditions in Hampton Roads, and more detailed information on the DEQ website.
If you have questions regarding information on the HRTPO or HRPDC websites, please contact the Communications Manager at (757) 420-8300. Para información en español, llame al (757) 420-8300.
