The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) invites you to review and provide feedback on the draft vision, goals, and objectives for the 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) between May 17, 2024 and May 31, 2024. These elements will guide the planning process for the 2050 LRTP, the region’s multimodal transportation blueprint.
About the 2050 LRTP Draft Vision, Goals, and Objectives
The draft vision for the 2050 LRTP is “Transportation for All,” focusing on safety, connectivity, accessibility, economic prosperity, efficiency, resiliency, innovation, sustainability, and equity. Key objectives include:
- Safety and Security: Make travel safer and reduce conflicts.
- Connectivity and Accessibility: Ensure fast and easy travel, offer diverse travel options, and minimize delays.
- Economic Prosperity: Support regional growth, efficient goods movement, and tourism.
- Efficiency, Resiliency, and Innovation: Build a dependable and efficient transportation system that adapts to disasters and technological changes.
- Sustainability: Protect the environment, save energy, and improve quality of life.
- Equity: Ensure transportation benefits are distributed fairly and support vulnerable communities.
As part of the 2050 LRTP visioning process, HRTPO staff has actively engaged with the public and regional stakeholders to identify key regional priorities and concerns. This engagement has included two public web-based surveys and a technical stakeholder survey, complemented by input from regional stakeholders. Feedback from these initiatives was compiled and refined to ensure alignment with Federal and State guidelines, with a specific focus on simplifying the message—a core theme of the 2050 LRTP.
