Regional Sea Level Rise Planning LEADs to White Paper

storm sceneFor 27 years, LEAD Hampton Roads has been one of Virginia’s premier leadership organizations.  It identifies, educates, and supports strong leaders in the Hampton Roads region. LEAD HR’s mission is to connect, challenge and inspire regional leaders to serve as catalysts for a world-class community, with the goal of developing a community of diverse and unified leaders characterized by passion, integrity and commitment.  Over nine months, LEAD HR participants attend monthly seminars to discuss regional issues and strategies for addressing them. HRPDC is proud to have Principal Regional Planner Jai McBride as part of the 2015 class

To culminate its program, the LEAD Hampton Roads 2015 class is taking on sea level rise planning for regional businesses as its community project.  The Hampton Roads region is rated second only to New Orleans as the most vulnerable area relative to sea level rise in the country.  Mitigation of the potential impacts of sea level rise, which could be devastating 20-30 years down the road, needs to start today.

The 2015 class recently launched an on-line survey and will conduct a series of public forums to gather data, inform the public, permanently capture expert knowledge and raise the discussion to the highest levels for the Region’s business community. Following some analysis, the information collected and potential solutions will be presented as a white paper.
