Hampton Roads has been selected as one of 10 national locations for Keep America Beautiful’s 2012 Great American CleanupTM National Action Days. The selection was a result of the Hampton Roads Planning District efforts, through its environmental education initiative, askHRgreen.org, to partner with Keep Virginia Beautiful
(KVB). The Great American Clean-upTM National Action Days are the largest grassroots community involvement program in the United States. The Hampton Roads cleanup events, April 27-28, represent the only designated National Action Days project in Virginia and will involve hundreds of volunteers transforming local parks, waterways and recreational areas into cleaner, greener environments.
Currently, over 40 events across all 16 cities and counties in Hampton Roads region are scheduled to take place during the two day event. In addition to individual volunteers, businesses and corporations in Hampton Roads have also sponsored teams to spearhead employer-led team cleanup projects.
Last year, Keep America Beautiful’s national Great American CleanupTM promotion drew more than 3.8 million volunteers that participated in 3 clean up events in 16 communities throughout the United States.
