FY2014 UPWP CoverThe HRPDC approved the FY 2014 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) at its April 18, 2013 Quarterly Meeting. The annually produced document describes the work activities that HRPDC staff will undertake during the fiscal year in support of the Commission and member localities.

The document is developed by HRPDC staff based upon input from the Hampton Roads’ local governments served by the HRPDC and various state and federal planning requirements. The planning activities in the UPWP address a wide range of programs, including emergency management, economics, housing and human services, and physical and environmental planning. The vast majority of the work elements evolved from local advisory and technical committees.

It also includes ideas, comments and suggestions generated at the HRPDC Retreat on February 21, 2013. On an annual basis, the HRPDC holds a retreat to discuss critical issues facing the region and to provide direction to staff on the Commission’s priorities for the coming fiscal year. At this year’s meeting, the HRPDC established strategic priorities for FY 2014 which included:

  • Development of a Regional Strategic Plan
  • Development of a Regional Homeland Security Sustainment Strategy and Plan
  • Evaluation of the Role of Federal Defense Spending in the Region’s Economy
  • Refinement and Implementation of the Watershed Implementation Plan for the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load
