The Norfolk and Virginia Beach JLUS is the result of a cooperative planning process between Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and four U.S. Navy Installations in Hampton Roads: Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Naval Air Station Oceana, Naval Station Norfolk, and Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads. The study specifically considers how flooding and sea level rise affect community assets and infrastructure and how those effects impact military operations and readiness in Hampton Roads. The study identifies several projects and policies that the cities can pursue to mitigate the adverse impacts of flooding and sea level rise on Navy operations.
