2016 Regional Recycling Rate Reporting

Recycle binsEach year the Commonwealth of Virginia requires local governments to submit documented recycling and waste disposal information to determine whether mandated recycling rates have been met.   The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) is responsible for reporting this information to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) on behalf of the Southeastern Virginia Region.  The region includes the Cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach, the Counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton and the Towns of Boykins, Branchville, Capron, Courtland, Ivor, Newsoms, Smithfield and Windsor.

Under this provision, the Code of Virginia requires the Southeastern Virginia Region to maintain a minimum 25% recycling rate.   The Southeastern Virginia’s annual recycling rate includes all recycling data from the residential, commercial, and institutional sectors located in the region.
