Prepare to be inspired and engaged when you see Poetics of Perception, an exhibition featuring the work of artist Vik Muniz, opening Feb. 7 at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach. Internationally recognized for his startling use of recycled and repurposed materials, Muniz creates stunning images while investigating the history of art and of visual reproduction. By employing diverse objects such as toys, diamonds, industrial garbage and minute magazine clippings, the artist creates tableaus which are preserved through photographic reproduction. The exhibition runs through April 27, 2014. Muniz’s award-winning documentary, Waste Land, filmed in the artist’s native Brazil among the world’s largest garbage dump, will also be screened during the course of the exhibition.
