Wednesday, January 22, 2014, 5:30 – 6:30 pm – Hampton Roads Planning Commission
The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) has embarked on an effort to develop Hampton Roads’ first Community-based Regional Strategic Plan entitled, Envision Hampton Roads. In developing Envision Hampton Roads, the HRPDC will be following a 7 step Community Based Planning approach with the first step beginning with establishing Community Values. This innovative approach to planning will give the residents of Hampton Roads the right to set the course for their community’s future.
Community values are the cornerstones that will act as the basis for the creation of a set of common goals upon which Envision Hampton Roads will be built. In establishing Hampton Roads’ values, we will have an opportunity to reflect on the past and determine how our present and future can best support sustainable and cooperative growth in our region. This task will involve an in-depth analysis of what residents’ value about living in the Hampton Roads area. This task is important because it helps elected officials and planners understand how growth, transportation and environmental issues can be solved to respond to residents’ most fundamental values about quality of life. This analysis will also help local leaders communicate the benefits of growth planning more effectively with residents.
As a first step, we invite you to participate in one of two upcoming listening sessions during which you will be invited to share your vision for the future of the Hampton Roads Region. We want to know what you think, as a resident of this community.
We look forward to seeing you at one of these meetings!
