HRDB holds second part of Symposium on the Americans with Disabilities Act

Due to the overwhelming response from the first Symposium on Employment as it relates to the ADA, a follow up roundtable was held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in the Regional Board Room at the HRPDC offices. The event was sponsored by the Hampton Roads Disabilities Board (HRDB) which receives administrative support from the HRPDC.

Following opening remarks from Shirley Confino-Rehder, participants viewed and discussed the "Ten Employment Myths,” an instructional video created by the Department of Justice.  This roundtable also provided attendees the opportunity to share successes and challenges with peers and cultivate more networking and communication between practitioners.  Participants worked in small groups to discuss regional barriers in employing persons with disabilities as well as identifying other key stakeholders that should also be included in future conversations.   A working group will be established to carry on the recommendations and solutions discussed.
