NRHA Hosts Regional Section 3 Compliance Summit June 30

By Shernita Bethea
Housing & Human Services Manager

Norfolk Redevelopment & Housing Authority (NRHA) will host the Regional Section 3 Compliance Summit from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the Murray Center, 455 E. Brambleton Ave., Norfolk.

Participants will learn of the HUD Section 3 requirements to ensure economic opportunities are appropriately directed towards Section 3 residents and contractors. They will also learn about the Alternative Procurement Program for businesses that partner with businesses owned by residents of assisted-rental housing. Representatives from local housing authorities, city of Chesapeake, city of Norfolk, as well as Norfolk Public Schools, will address upcoming contracting opportunities.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) website defines Section 3 as a “program (that) requires that recipients of certain HUD financial assistance, to the greatest extent possible, provide job training, employment and contract opportunities for low- or very-low income residents in connection with projects and activities in their neighborhoods.”

This summit is open to the public. Contractors, housing authority staff, property managers, Section 3 residents, procurement/contract officers and agency partners are encouraged to attend. General registration for this event is $50, Section 3 resident registration is $25. Proceeds will help fund the NRHA Resident Training Fund.
