The city of Norfolk is hosting a Brownfield 101 Workshop at the Slover Library July 9, 2015, from 12:45-4:00pm. The workshop is also sponsored by the New Jersey Institute of Technology Technical Assistance to Brownfield Communities (NJIT TAB), and the US Environmental Protection Agency, Region 3.
The workshop is designed to help local planning and development staffs increase the region’s capacity to compete for Brownfields funding, identify possible Brownfields opportunities, and to develop a visioning of what sustainable revitalization can be. The EPA’s Brownfields Program offers opportunities for communities to clean up old industrial sites (and sites “not-so-industrial”), resolve historic environmental liabilities and reposition the property for beneficial reuse. Redevelopment of brownfields sites is an area of economic development that can particularly benefit from a toolbox approach.
