Shernita L. Bethea, Housing Administrator with the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, was selected for the prestigious 'Top 40 Under 40' award by the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) and the Virginia Housing Coalition. The award was presented during the 2012 Virginia Housing Coalition dinner held on Thursday, June 21 in Richmond, Virginia. In addition, award recipients will be invited to participate in a two-day leadership development training session in September sponsored by VHDA.
Shernita has a talent for focusing on the particular needs of a community and integrating them into a regional framework. In addition, she has acquired a wealth of regional housing knowledge that is currently sought after by various non-profits, local governments and others regarding serviced offered by various organizations in the Hampton Roads region. Over the past several years, Ms. Bethea has actively served on more than half a dozen boards and groups including the Hampton Roads Housing Consortium, the Virginia Association of Housing Counselors, and Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia.
About the 40 Under 40 Award: The 'Top 40 Under 40' Housing awards recognize Virginia's top professionals under the age of forty who have demonstrated dedication to their community and distinction in their professional accomplishments. The award was established by VHC and VHDA to commemorate VHDA’s 40th anniversary.
