Map of the Month: 2022 Great American Cleanup

A volunteer poses with a trash picked up during the Great American CleanupThe 2022 Great American Cleanup, hosted by askHRGreen.org and Keep Virginia Beautiful, was held on March 25 - 26, 2022 in Hampton Roads. This map depicts the results of the work of a record-breaking 1,400 volunteers across the region clearing litter from parks, stream beds, parking lots, and more. There were also several beautification projects such as painting trash cans and other structures, new plantings, and graffiti removal.

The circles indicate where many of the individual cleanup events took place. The size of the circle represents the number of volunteers. The localities are symbolized by the total weight of litter collected (click the legend button to view).
