On September 30, 2013, volunteers from each of the four askHRgreen.org education committees participated in a media ambassador training on “How to present yourself—and askHRgreen.org—in a radio interview”. The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) was thrilled to host Barbara Hamm Lee as the moderator for this special training. Barbara has served as the Creative Services Officer for WHRO since July 2011. She is also the executive producer and host of ‘Another View’, a program highlighting topics of interest to African-Americans in Hampton Roads. Barbara was able to lead the group through a discussion of how to prepare for interviews, how to handle hard and soft questions, the art of name dropping and what to wear to an interview. While Barbara’s specialty might be radio, she did a fantastic job providing pointers on how askHRgreen.org media ambassadors can prepare for TV interviews as well. New media ambassadors were even given an opportunity to perform mock interviews with Barbara, an invaluable experience for the rookies.
The HRPDC thanks Barbara for her participation in this training as well as the following askHRgreen.org media ambassadors: Brianna Venner (Hampton), Quwania Jefferson (Norfolk), Sarah Crawford (HRSD), Erica Roberts (Virginia Beach), Donna Corbus (Portsmouth), Cris Ausink (Hampton), Deidre Harmon (Norfolk) and Lori Woolman (Newport News).
askHRgreen.org is a public awareness program of the 16 cities and counties of Hampton Roads administered through the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC). Members include the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg; the counties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Southampton, Surry and York; and the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD).
