The Great SouthEast ShakeOut

Governor Bob McDonnell proclaimed October 18, 2012, Earthquake ShakeOut day in Virginia.

Ready Hampton Roads along with the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission want you to be earthquake prepared. As the region has seen, we’re not immune from the earthquake threat so this year we invite you to join the Great SouthEast ShakeOut.

The ShakeOut is a multi-state earthquake drill that will occur at 10:18am on October 18, 2012. It is designed to help citizens learn more about what to do if there is an earthquake and then to practice these steps:

  • DROP to the ground
  • Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table
  • HOLD ON to it until the shaking stops
