Winners of HRHC's First Poster Art Contest

At this year's Hampton Roads Housing Consortium (HRHC) Awards Breakfast the winner of the first ever HRHC "My House, My Home, Our Community" Poster Contest were announced. Students living on Hampton Roads' Peninsula were invited to use their artistic creativity to produce a poster depicting their idea of house, home and community.

Entries were judged on creativity, composition and the artist's statement describing the artwork and how it captures the HRHC's mission. The three winners were recognized during the 11th Annual HRHC Awards Breakfast and the winning artwork were on display. The winning entries are (last names withheld for privacy):

First Place - Veronica T., Age 10, Kiln Creek Elementary

STATEMENT: I drew this and colored this to represent my home and my community. I like walking my dog and going to see all the birds. At the pond in my neighborhood there are many turtles and fish in the water. I love exploring my community.

Second Place - Clonice P., Age 10, Greenwood Elementary

STATEMENT: My Neighborhood is Brookside. Brookside is a good place with nice people. My siblings love Brookside. One of them loves the playground. The other like how much space there is to ride his/ her bike. The last one likes the festival that happened on a pretty hot day. There was lots of food. My Family loves it there.

Third Place - Sydney M. & Kayla T., Ages 10, Kiln Creek Elementary

STATEMENT: A Community Neighborhood should be a neighborhood that welcomes every family or friend! A neighborhood should have people doing good and not throwing trash on the ground.
