The Hampton Roads Environmental Education Teams (HR WET, HR STORM, Fat Free Drains, and HR CLEAN) are offering competitive mini-grants of up to $500! All school teachers (K-12) and youth organizations are eligible. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year. Projects should be specifically tied to one of the education teams’ missions:

  • Water conservation
  • Stormwater management
  • Keep Fats, Oils, Grease (FOG) out of the drain
  • Litter prevention

How to apply: Visit www.hrwet.orgOpens in new window, www.hrstorm.orgOpens in new window, www.fatfreedrains.comOpens in new window, or www.hrclean.orgOpens in new window to apply online or to download an application to mail in. Please look for the mini-grant link on the homepage. The application is short and simple and project ideas are listed on each of the sites.

Mini-grants are intended to provide supplemental funding for environmentally related projects. The mini-grant may fund the entire project, or be used to supplement a project that requires more funding than is available from the school. (Funds will not be available for operations projects such as monthly fees and waste receptacles.)

Applications submitted by the 15th of each month will be reviewed and responded to by the 15th of the following month. You will receive notification via a letter. If your application is approved, you will receive your scholarship along with your acceptance letter and summary form.

Important: Accepting a mini-grant award indicates your understanding that you will complete and submit the project summary form, including sending in copies of receipts, upon completion of your group's project. Digital photos are also welcome so that we can recognize your efforts on our web site.
