The Hampton Roads Housing Consortium (HRHC) is bringing internationally sought-after community development consultant and grassroots engagement strategist Peter Kageyama to deliver the keynote address during the 13th Annual Housing Awards, Thursday, October 10th at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Kageyama is the author of For the Love of Cities: The Love Affair Between People and Their Places and the follow up, Love Where You Live: Creating Emotionally Engaging Places. Planetizen recognized For the Love of Cities as a Top 10 Book in 2012 in urban planning, design and development. Peter speaks all over the world about bottom-up community development and the amazing people who are making change happen.
Peter Kageyama loves cities; big cities, small cities, villages and small towns. His books examine what makes cities lovable and why people connect emotionally with some places and not others. In addition to speaking about cities and communities, Peter has been consulting with a wide range of civic organizations, from economic development groups to arts and cultural groups to young professional organizations on how to create more vibrant communities.
The HRHC is a non-profit organization consisting of members from Hampton Roads’ city and county governments, Redevelopment and Housing Authorities, non-profit housing and emergency shelter providers, mortgage lenders, realtors, builder associations and a variety of other groups and individuals interested in addressing regional housing issues. Each year, the HRHC recognizes the region’s best organizations and individuals that have demonstrated excellence in affordable housing. The annual awards ceremony is a celebration of the talent of individuals who are making a difference in Hampton Roads.
