DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – Starting Salary $140,000

The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) is seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of Deputy Executive Director.  The successful candidate will guide and supervise the activities of professional staff in a regional planning office in the areas of transportation planning and engineering.  The position requires significant public sector knowledge with demonstrated knowledge of the theories, principles, and techniques of transportation planning and analysis as well as strong consensus building, personnel and budget management skills.  The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of federal and state transportation planning and programming requirements as well as a full understanding of MPO laws and regulations.  The Deputy Executive Director assists the Executive Director in providing strategic and dynamic leadership and management for the agency’s transportation planning activities and oversees the integration of policy, funding, innovation and operational elements of the HRTPO’s work.  Qualified applicants must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.

SENIOR REGIONAL PLANNER – Starting Salary:  $68,000 - $72,000 DOE/DOQ

The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC), a regional planning agency, representing the interests of the 1.7 million residents in the 17 localities of Hampton Roads, is seeking a Senior Regional Planner to perform advanced professional work in a variety of assignments in the areas of comprehensive, strategic, environmental and economic development planning in a regional planning office.  Functions both as team leader and a team member on inter-disciplinary planning projects.  The successful candidate will have considerable professional experience (5 – 7 years) in the applicable program areas with some experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.  Master’s Degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree with significant, relevant professional experience will be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.

Transportation Planner/Engineer - Starting Salary $54,000 - $60,000 DOE/DOQ

The HRTPO is seeking a candidate for a Transportation Planner/Engineer position. The successful candidate will be part of a team developing the multi-modal long-range transportation plan for the region, using principles of scenario planning and project prioritization. In addition, the position utilizes the region’s travel demand forecasting model for project evaluation, corridor studies, and as a tool for evaluating the region’s transportation system. This position requires the ability to work well with stakeholders, as well as professional and support staff. Time management, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills including the ability to interpret, visualize, and clearly convey technical analyses via written reports and presentations (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc.), are required.
