Overview
askHRgreen.org is a comprehensive environmental education and public awareness initiative that brings together four long-standing programs:
- Recycling and Beautification
- Fats, Oils, and Grease
- Stormwater Education
- Water Awareness
Staffed by the HRPDC, it is overseen by an Executive Committee representing the HRPDC’s four long-standing environmental education committees.
Fats, Oils & Grease Education Subcommittee
The Fats, Oils, & Grease Education Subcommittee was established to develop a regionally-consistent program for managing fats, oils, and grease (FOG) in the wastewater system. In addition to general public outreach, this effort includes a regional FOG training component and supports compliance with the Regional Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) Consent Order.
Recycling & Beautification Subcommittee
The Recycling and Beautification Subcommittee is charged with developing a cooperative regional education and outreach program addressing litter control, recycling, and community beautification.
Stormwater Education Subcommittee
The Stormwater Education Subcommittee was established by the Regional Stormwater Management Committee to develop and implement a regional stormwater education program. The primary purpose of this initiative is to support local government compliance with Phase I and Phase II Stormwater Permits.
Water Awareness Subcommittee
The Water Awareness Subcommittee was established by the regional Directors of Utilities Committee to educate citizens about aging infrastructure, the value of tap water, and the importance of water conservation. This cooperative effort assists localities in meeting the education requirements of water supply and groundwater permits.
